Researcher of the Month #14

Share:

Congratulations to our Researcher of the Month: Rui Simões of the Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (i3S), Porto, Portugal.

Rui has a background in biochemistry (University of Coimbra, Portugal) and extensive experience in preclinical MRI, MRS, and MRSI of mouse glioma models. During his PhD (Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain) and postdoctoral training (Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA), Rui harnessed dynamic multi-nuclear MRS to probe tumor metabolism, which he recently extended to deuterium metabolic imaging of mouse glioblastoma as a Marie Curie fellow (Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal).

Currently, Rui is a research associate at i3S (University of Porto, Portugal) where he is leading the new Preclinical MRI lab, focused on translational MRI applications for non-invasive characterization of tumor heterogeneity and treatment-response.

Rui is also a founding member of the ISMRM Iberian Chapter (https://ismrm-iberian.eu/), and the local host of the 2023 GliMR meeting, in Porto.
