A fully funded PhD position is available at the Institute of technology Sligo, Ireland under the supervision of Dr. Saritha Unnikrishnan (IT Sligo), Dr. David Tormey (IT Sligo) and Dr. Ian McLoughlin (Galway Mayo IT). This project will be carried out in collaboration with the PEM Strategic Research Centre in IT Sligo and Sligo University Hospital.
The project entitled ‘Deep Learning for CT and MR Image Classification of Sinonasal Tumour Entities’ is a collaborative research between IT Sligo and GMIT in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and health-based research funded by the CUA bursary. This is an interdisciplinary project with applications in Computer Science, AI, Data Science and Computer Vision. In addition, the proposed research is innovative and will contribute significantly to the health services research, patient-oriented clinical research and population health research.
This project includes clinical, industrial and academic collaborators from Europe and USA.
Stipend & Benefits
· An annual stipend of €10,000 is available to the successful candidate.
· Registration fees will be paid in addition to the stipend amount.
The successful applicant will investigate various image processing and AI algorithms aiming to develop a novel diagnostic tool for sinonasal tumour classification from medical images.
Minimum 2.1 honours degree or equivalent GPA in Computer Science, Computing & Information Technology, Computer Vision & Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or in a related discipline in Engineering will be required. Candidates with a masters degree in any of the above listed areas is desirable. Previous research experience in Image Processing or Machine Learning will be an added advantage but not mandatory.
